Call for Book Reviews and Review Essays

confluences – Journal of Critical Latin American and Caribbean Studies is preparing its first issue, scheduled for March/April 2027, and is already accepting submissions to its Book Reviews and Review Essays sections for this inaugural issue.

We welcome critical engagements with recent publications and ongoing debates in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, particularly contributions that bring different disciplinary, regional, and intellectual perspectives into conversation. 

Book reviews (800–1,200 words) focus on a single recent publication; review essays (2,000–4,000 words) explore multiple works or broader scholarly debates. Contributions may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Publication is open access and free of charge.

Accepted pieces will be published online first: they will become available on the journal’s website as soon as editorial work and production are complete, ahead of their inclusion in the full issue.
